FAQ

What is your availability?
I see clients from 2 pm – 8 pm on Mondays, 11 am – 8 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 am – 3 pm.
What happens during the phone consultation?
I offer a free, 15-minute phone consultation to all clients. During the consultation, you can share your goals and give a brief overview of your history and what you’ve been experiencing. It’s also an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I’ll attentively listen and offer an honest assessment of how I believe I can assist you. I’ll gladly provide a referral if I think there is a better fit for you elsewhere.
How many years of experience do you have?
I have nearly 10 years of experience as a therapist. Prior to that, I had 15 years of experience working with individuals and groups at the community level doing environmental organizing.
Can I reschedule an appointment and what is your cancellation policy?
Yes, you can reschedule. I kindly ask that you give me 48 hours’ notice so I can reschedule an appointment. A cancellation with less than 48 hours’ notice will incur a charge.
Do you see individuals for relationship therapy/coaching or only couples?

Yes, I see individuals, too. One of my specialties is working with individuals who are either healing from heartbreak or who want to do a better job of picking potential partners.

We all have patterns in relationships that we do not always understand and that cause us distress and pain. I will work with you to identify those patterns, understand why they exist, and work to create new relationship dynamics. This way you will be able to attract and choose partners that better fit your needs. And sustain and enjoy those relationships for the long haul.

We haven’t been dating that long, does couples therapy make sense?

Yes! When we first begin seeing someone that we like and see a future with, we are propelled forward by happy chemicals in our brain, like dopamine and oxytocin, that make everything feel easy and good.

Once that wears off though, we have to start doing the real work of relationships, much of which is not taught in school or by our families. For some, this work starts just a few weeks or months into a relationship. This can be a perfect time to start couples counseling.

How long does couples counseling last?
Everyone’s needs are different, but on average I see couples for around 5-8 months.
What is your approach to working with clients?

I use an approach that is creative, dynamic, and holistic. Everyone is different and different things work for different people.

I draw from a number of different modalities for work with couples, including the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. With individuals, I draw from the Internal Family Systems model (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), short-term Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and somatic approaches like EMDR.

What age ranges do you work with?
Men and women ages 18 and up.
How long are your sessions?
Sessions are 55 minutes.
Do you take insurance?
I do not take insurance. In the past, I’ve found that it puts too many limitations on my work with clients (denying service, limiting service, etc.) My practice operates on a private-pay basis, supporting a holistic approach to therapy and emphasizing intensive care for healing, growth, and transformation. However, I can provide documentation to submit to your insurance for out-of-network benefits.
What is your general philosophy or approach to healing and helping?
My general philosophy focuses on client-centered work that is collaborative and creative. I want to meet you where you are every step in the journey. I work to foster autonomy and empowerment in clients by helping them identify and utilize their strengths, enhance their coping skills and communication, and make decisions in their best interest that come from a place of consciousness and awareness.
I see your dog in one of your pictures. Will he be joining us?
My doggo Bandido is usually curled up in his doggie bed in my office during sessions. He almost never interrupts. He is less of a guard dog and more of a nap and cuddle dog.
Can you tell me something about yourself, so you feel like less of a stranger?
Yes! In my free time, I love to ride my bike, relax with a movie, go to the beach, or simply take a walk near the water.
Do you have a personal growth practice of your own?
I practice Transcendental Meditation (TM) once a day for 20 minutes. I also try to do yoga when I can, usually once a week, and I’ve learned that walks near water can be incredibly calming as well.
Do you have any podcasts you recommend?
Well, I am so glad you asked because I love listening to podcasts and have no shortage of recommendations. I’m a big fan of Glennon Doyle’s podcast, “We Can Do Hard Things,” the Rich Roll podcast, and Esther Perel’s podcast, “Where Should We Begin.” I also like comedy podcasts that recap my favorite Bravo reality shows.
