Heartache and loss make us feel alone.
Losing someone we love, whether from a breakup or death, can feel incredibly isolating.
There is a period when other loved ones surround us with care – they offer to help with cooking, cleaning, picking up the kids, etc. They offer a listening ear or empathy.
But after a time, friends and family stop asking us about it.
The loss still feels just as painful on the tenth day as it did on the first day, but it feels like people aren’t interested.
We carry the grief alone.
It feels too heavy to carry.
When we isolate in our grief, we carry a heavy burden.
It can feel like someone ripped our hearts out of our chests or kicked us in our stomachs.
Every cell in our body hurts.
We can’t concentrate at work. We zone out and dissociate in everyday conversation.
We forget why we walked into a room or a store. Every task feels impossible to do.
Everyone else is moving on, why can’t I?
It’s as if the whole world is getting on with things, but we are immobile.
We feel stuck in the moment when we found out our partner wanted to leave, or wanted a divorce, or when we first learned the person died.
Help is possible, and moving forward is possible.
It is possible to heal from this state of being.
It may never fully go away, but it can get better and more manageable.
Part of how we get there is by talking through our story with someone and processing our emotions.
Therapy can help with that.
We can get to a point where we don’t forget the person, but every thought of the person no longer gives us panic, dread, and pain.
I use both cognitive therapies (CBT, ACT) and therapies that get at our subconscious (EMDR, somatic work) to help you move forward in your grief.
Whether processing past trauma or honoring the person you lost, we will make space for all of it.
Feel more peaceful
You can get to a place of peace, no longer feeling like the weight of grief is holding you down.
You can release guilt and shame and move forward in what brings you joy.
You can feel more free, clear, and like your normal self every day.
